Toncoin rises 20% after Pavel Durov leaves France

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has left France for Dubai after obtaining judicial permission, causing a 20% increase in the value of Toncoin.

Durov, the well-known founder of Telegram, which is associated with the blockchain The Open Network (TON), has temporarily left France after receiving a court order to travel to Dubai. This news has had a significant impact on the crypto market, especially on the price of Toncoin (TON), the network's native cryptocurrency, which saw a 20% increase in value following the news.

Although Durov has received this permit, he still faces charges related to Telegram's responsibility for the dissemination of illegal content. Durov has been under judicial supervision in France since his arrest in August 2024.

Pavel Durov, 40, was arrested in August 2024 at Le Bourget Airport, outside Paris, for his alleged complicity in the dissemination of illegal content via Telegram. French authorities accused him of failing to take sufficient measures to curb the spread of extremist and terrorist content, as well as of activities related to drug trafficking and the dissemination of child sexual material.

Following his arrest, Durov was released on five million euro bail and placed under judicial supervision, which prevented him from leaving the country. However, in recent weeks, an investigating judge authorized his request to modify the conditions of his supervision, allowing him to travel to Dubai for "several weeks."

The court ruling coincides with a time when Durov appears to have taken steps to comply with the French authorities' demands. In January 2025, during a hearing with the magistrates handling the case, he acknowledged "the seriousness of all the accusations," according to sources close to the case.

In the last 24 hours, its price increased by nearly 20%, according to data from CoinMarketCap. This surge reflects not only investor confidence in Durov, but also optimism about TON's future.
