Tim Berners-Lee is auctioning off the source code of the World Wide Web (WWW) as an NFT through Sotheby's, while Mexico announces the launch of its first blockchain artwork. 

The legend of computing and the father of the World Wide Web (WWW), Tim Berners-Lee, will auction off the original source code of his invention as a non-fungible token (NFT) via the British auction house Sotheby'sAs explained, the NFT will have the 9.500 lines of code that gave rise to the WWW and the Internet as we know it today. 

In addition, Tim Berners-Lee, who created the code between 1989 and 1991, says he will design and sign a digital poster of the code, attach a letter written by him and integrate an animated version of the code, so that the auction winner will get a truly unique, top-level collector's item. 

In addition to the 9.500 lines of code, the poster, the letter, and the animated version of WWW, the NFT will also include implementations of the 3 languages ​​and protocols invented by Tim, which remain fundamental to the web today: These are: HyperText Markup Language (HTML), HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) y Uniform Resource Identifier (URI).

Tim chose to create an NFT as he sees non-fungible tokens as one of “the latest fun creations” of the digital industry and “the most appropriate means of ownership out there” currently thanks to the potential of blockchain

The auction will take place from June 23 to 30 through Sotheby's, which already has extensive experience within this ecosystem.

Viva, the first crypto art auctioned in Mexico and Latin America

On the other hand, Mexico launches the first auction of digital artwork created as NFT in the country and in Latin America. The digital work, called “Viva”, was designed by the contemporary artist Juan Carlos Del Valle, and shows an abstract image of a heart “beating” between thick oil paint strokes. The art piece was sound-driven to represent the “beat” of art eternally on the blockchain. 

Del Valle explained that the auction of the digital artwork marks a before and after in the way contemporary art is conceived in Mexico and Latin America. As it was designed as an NFT, the work will only exist in the virtual world, Del Valle explained.

According to local media Azteca, the auction will be held at the Mexican auction house Morton on June 24. This will be part of the 2021 edition of the event “This is Now, Contemporary Art Auction” developed by the Morton auction house. 

Fox, Porsche and Mark Cuban also invest in NFTs

Even though the NFT frenzy has died down a bit compared to the craze of the first quarter, interest and investment in this asset class continues. Now, giants like Fox y Porsche are interested in NFTs, while the billionaire Mark Cuban He invested a million-dollar sum in the company genois, focused on non-fungible tokens.

For its part, Porsche, one of the largest manufacturers of high-end sports cars, announced which will launch a blockchain platform dedicated to trading cards. The platform, called Fan zone, will offer an online marketplace for crypto collectibles where sports fans can acquire and trade digital trading cards as NFTs, guaranteeing rarity, authenticity and originality for each piece. 

Porsche's blockchain platform has already partnered with the German Football Association (DFB) to launch its first crypto collectibles. 

Finally, Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, was one of the lead investors in the funding round held by Genuis, which develops a music marketplace on the blockchain. Flow and two NFT crypto-collectible projects.
