With the latest Ethereum 2.0 testnet successfully deployed, developers claim that this upgrade may be just a few weeks away from completion.
Ethereum 2.0, one of the most anticipated updates of the crypto ecosystem as it is considered the future of the network Ethereum, is nearing completion, even though the test networks deployed for this update have presented certain problems with the network clients. The developers of the long-awaited update, named > and called Ethereum 2.0, they stated that its launch will possibly occur within about 6 or 8 weeks, due to the success of tines, the second test network that was deployed after Spadina.
Ben Edgington, one of the lead developers of this update, released update number 54 on the progress that Ethereum 2.0 has had to date, indicating that the progress achieved in the network may allow the upgrade to be completed as planned by the team. Recall that during the launch of Medal, the multi-client public testnet for Ethereum 2.0 validators, the developers stated that if this testnet is successfully implemented, ETH 2.0 would be launched later this year.

The first version for Phase 0
The post shared by Edgington places special emphasis on the launch of the version v1.0.0 – candidate, as the first release candidate for Phase 0 of the ETH 2.0 upgrade. This release allows developers to evaluate and improve some configuration parameters before deploying the first v1.0.0 release for ETH 2.0, although they also note that there is a possibility that minor incompatibilities may be introduced in the selection of the final configuration or that some unexpected issues may arise during deployment.
On the other hand, the developer also notes that this version is integrating new parameters that allow to reduce the problems presented in previous versions. For example, Edgington reports that the status of the genesis will be known a week before the start of the chain, a fact that helps both clients and users, allowing to prepare the versions for the genesis and to update, respectively. Likewise, Edgington points out that this factor significantly reduces the reduction of penalties on the network during non-completion, another advantage considering that the penalty coefficient for inactivity has been quadrupled.
“This reduces penalties for non-completion, and is a temporary measure to give punters more confidence in case we do have problems.”
Deposit contract
Although the developer did not provide many details regarding the deposit contracts on the network, he did say that these will be ready within a few days, and that in a couple of months they will be implemented in the Beacon Chain or Phase 0 of Ethereum 2.0. Likewise, the Ethereum developer issued a warning to the community to beware of fake deposit contracts that will surely explode in the coming days.
“In the meantime, be careful out there. Many fake deposit and front-end Launchpad contracts will erupt in the coming days. Beware of official announcements – don’t send ETH to random contracts – this is not DeFi.”
Ethereum 2.0 Testnets
On the other hand, regarding testnets, Edgington acknowledged that perhaps Ethereum users are getting a little bored of testnets, due to the low participation that Medalla currently has. The developer affirms that it is time to move forward and complete the Ethereum 2.0 update, as the evolution that will give Ethereum the scalability, security and economy that the network needs to support all the ecosystems that are developed on it.
Edgington also expressed his satisfaction with the Zinken testnet, which was successfully developed in conjunction with the first Spadina network. Although this first testnet, implemented to provide a challenging environment for testing focused on genesis generation and network deposits, presented several problems and was even predicted to fail, Edgington assured that Spadina performed well enough for developers to focus on other parts of the project.
Other update details
Edgington also mentioned the Ethereum 2.0 vulnerability bounty program, noting that up to $50 is available for critical discoveries and issues, particularly those related to the network's clients, such as Teku, Lighthouse and Prysm.
Finally, Edgington called on ETH users and the broader community to turn to other clients and alleviate the current load on Prysm, which remains the network's primary client.
“Please stop putting yourselves and the network at risk by stacking everything on a single client…If we can achieve better distribution for the mainnet, single client issues, like we saw at Spadina, will have a much smaller overall impact on the health of the network.”
About Ethereum 2.0
Ethereum 2.0, the evolution of the second network blockchain The largest, most important and most used in the crypto ecosystem, Ethereum, is an update that seeks to provide greater scalability, speed and security in transactions carried out with the cryptocurrency ETH, while migrating the network to a new consensus protocol, the Proof of Stake or Proof of Stake (PoS).
