The state of Nuevo León wants to be the “Capital of Blockchain and Web3” of Mexico

Through “The Web3 Talent Encounter,” Nuevo León aims to attract Mexican startups that use blockchain technology to build and accelerate Web3 innovation.

The blockchain industry is driving an unprecedented revolution worldwide, allowing companies, organizations and people around the world to access a new, open and decentralized alternative financial system, where a wide range of more efficient and transparent services are offered.

The impact that this technology is having on finance has given way to a new generation of decentralized applications that are part of Web3, also known as the next generation of the Internet and which promises to empower users over their data and content through decentralization.

Mexico, Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies

From Nuevo Leon, Senator Indira Kempis has been pushing several initiatives that seek to introduce Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies into Mexico's financial and legal system. At the end of June, Senator Kempis introduced a Proposal for reform of Mexico's monetary law in the Senate of the Republic, to persuade legislators to legally recognize Bitcoin as a currency in the country.

Kempis has also been supporting other initiatives related to the crypto industry, such as the installation of the first Bitcoin ATM in the Mexican Senate; an educational project that seeks to facilitate legislators' access to new technologies to improve their understanding and comprehension.

The senator from Nuevo León defends the use of Bitcoin and new technologies as a tool to guarantee access to financial education and inclusion; both are rights that all Mexicans should enjoy.

In his reform proposal, Kempis highlighted the country's need to address the issue of de-banking as one of the biggest problems affecting the Mexican population. According to estimates from the latest national report on Financial Inclusion in Mexico, 56% of its citizens remain excluded from the current financial system.

However, for Kempis, Bitcoin and Blockchain have the capacity and potential to help Mexico overcome its obstacles, to advance in innovation and guarantee the well-being of its citizens.
