The National Bitcoin Office of El Salvador (ONBTC) has announced the launch of an innovative educational program focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, which will begin to be implemented at the end of January in 20 public schools.
The ONBTC of El Salvador, in collaboration with ARK Educate, has recently announced an educational program that aims to transform the country's educational system.
According to the release, this program seeks to prepare students for current and future technological challenges, focusing on education about Bitcoin and blockchain technology, as well as emerging areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. Stacey Herbert, ONBTC spokesperson, said that this initiative is crucial to equipping young people with relevant skills in an increasingly digitalized world.
The initial phase of the program will cover 20 secondary schools, where practical workshops and theoretical courses designed to foster interest in and understanding of these technologies will be implemented. However, as the program progresses, it is planned to expand to more educational institutions, in order to reach a greater number of students and contribute to the formation of a new generation prepared to lead in the digital age.
Educating thousands of students about innovation
Herbert made a summary in X on the achievements of the Bitcoin Office in its second year of operations. He highlighted that the ONBTC has trained 80.000 public servants and educated thousands of students through programs such as “My First Bitcoin”, “Node Nation” and “CUBO+”. Regarding the latter, he stressed that El Salvador has been striving to consolidate its leadership as a center of excellence in engineering and technology, training Bitcoin and Lightning Network code developers through its elite program.
The Node Nation program has also been teaching students the fundamentals of coding and node management on the Bitcoin Lightning Network. All of these educational initiatives position El Salvador as a leader in integrating Bitcoin into the school curriculum, empowering new generations with practical knowledge about disruptive technologies.
The epicenter of Bitcoin and AI innovations in Latin America
According to reports, the meeting between Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest, and President Nayib Bukele was crucial to kick off this new educational project focused on AI and robotics. During the meeting, the possibility of introducing a curriculum that included robotics, artificial intelligence, blockchain-related concepts, and energy storage was discussed. Wood highlighted President Bukele's determination to turn El Salvador into a key technology hub, noting that the country could become an "oasis" for the Bitcoin and artificial intelligence communities.
This educational program seeks to improve students' technical skills, attract investment and foster an environment conducive to technological development.
ONBTC has been actively working to attract investors and entrepreneurs in the crypto sector, facilitating meetings that could result in new economic opportunities for El Salvador.
El Salvador moves towards a technological future
The educational approach to AI and robotics that El Salvador is taking complements ONBTC’s previous efforts in technology training. Over the past two years, a significant number of developers specializing in Bitcoin and the Lightning Network have graduated, thus contributing to the growth of a thriving technology scene within the country. According to Herbert, this positive cycle can lead El Salvador to become a Bitcoin “Silicon Valley” where talent and investment converge.
Furthermore, by incorporating these new technological areas into the school curriculum, El Salvador is laying the foundations for a future where its youth are better prepared to face the challenges of the global labor market. Education on AI and robotics is relevant to the personal development of students and is essential for the country's economic growth.
The initiative launched by ONBTC together with ARK Educate represents a significant commitment to educational innovation in El Salvador. By introducing programs ranging from Bitcoin to artificial intelligence and robotics, the country is positioning itself as a regional leader in technological education. The successful implementation of these programs could open new doors for both students and the country as a whole.
