After several delays, the hard fork Cardano’s Vasil appears to be ready to be deployed on the testnet.
Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), the company in charge of developing Cardano, has officially presented the Proposed upgrade to perform the fork of its test network, which will kick off the Vasil update on the mainnet.
IOHK's proposal Voting will begin on July 3 and will be allowed for a period of four weeks. for app developers and exchanges to test the upgrade's functionality on the testnet before applying the changes to the mainnet.
What is Vasil?
Following the implementation of the hard fork Alonzo which implemented the ability to manage smart contracts on Cardano, Vasil will be the next major upgrade to the network.
This upgrade will bring significant improvements in the performance and capacity of the blockchain. IOHK describes it as “The biggest and best network upgrade to date”, as it is designed to offer higher performance, improving script performance for developers and reducing transaction costs to almost zero.
Vasil will also implement one of the most anticipated solutions, the broadcast channeling, which aims to improve Cardano's scalability for DApps. This functionality speeds up block creation, since they can be transmitted even if they have been only partially validated.
The name of the update was chosen in honor of Vasil Stoyanov Dabov, an artist and member of the Cardano community, who passed away in December 2021,
When will the implementation be? hard fork Vasil?
Vasil's implementation has been delayed several times since it was announced. On June 22, the development team and Charles Hoskinson himself announced a New one-month delay due to the detection of some errors which could put the balance and stability of ADA at risk, so they decided to delay the implementation until these bugs were fixed.
Finally, if all goes well it seems that on July 3rd it will be will implement the update on the Cardano testnet and four weeks later it will be deployed to the mainnet.
This is because both the community and IOHK decided to give developers and users four weeks to update and test decentralized applications on the test network.
In this sense, the developers have pointed out that the hard fork will only be deployed on the Cardano mainnet when everyone is comfortable and confident with how Vasil works.
