The prestigious news agency wants to share the most important moments in the history of the world, captured through its long-standing journalistic work, to collectors and fans of NFTs. The launch of the new market platform will take place on January 31, according to AP, noting that the initial collection of non-fungible tokens will include Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs, as well as images of current and former photojournalists of the agency.

Associated Press and NFT photojournalism
The Associated Press made its entry into the burgeoning and fast-paced world of NFT tokens in March 2021, when it announced the release of its first digital artwork created in collaboration with Everipedia and artist Marko Stanojevic. At that time, the NFT launched by the agency on the Opensea market was auctioned for a total of $16.608. Its first NFT shows a view from outer space of the presidential elections that took place in the United States in December 2020. The agency recorded the result of said elections on the Ethereum and Tron blockchains, as reviewed this medium.
Now, the Associated Press will share the most important moments in world history, captured through iconic photographs over the past 175 years. Dwayne Desaulniers, director of blockchain and data licensing at AP, noted that the gripping and moving images, which continue to resonate today, will be tokenized on the blockchain with the vision of sharing them to a global audience. The initial collection of NFTs from the Associated Press will include images from space, weather, wars and others focused on the journalistic work of specific photographers at the agency.
“Powered by Xooa, we are proud to offer these tokenized pieces to a rapidly growing global audience of NFT photography collectors”said Desaulniers.
This initiative positions the Associated Press as the first news agency to launch its own NFT marketplace, showing the great potential and importance that these digital assets have gained in the last year.
Connection between two worlds
For Zach Danker-Feldman, market director at Xooa, his company's work with AP is an important step in establishing a “powerful connection between the virtual world and the real world”. Danker-Feldman noted that the Associated Press marketplace is built on accessibility for all types of collectors and hobbyists, allowing them to join a community that shares their interest in photojournalism and history.
The Associated Press will support payments in Ethereum from different digital wallets, such as MetaMask, as well as secondary market transactions and purchases using credit card payments. The money from the NFT sale will be used to fund his journalism.
