Fragments of a real Lamborghini will be tokenized on the blockchain as NFTs as a form of protest against zero-sum extractive practices in the crypto industry.
Many people enter the world of cryptocurrencies, and technology blockchain with the idea of investing a little money and becoming millionaires “overnight”; that is, in the shortest possible time and without much effort. Stories like those of Glauber Contessoto, the brothers Tommy and James or the supermarket worker “Rob”, inspire these ideas even more, telling how they became millionaires in just a few months by investing their savings in cryptocurrency projects such as Dogecoin (DOGE) or Shiba Inu (SHIB).
While it is true that the volatility in crypto asset prices has led many in the industry to share stories of self-improvement, the main culture within the crypto world should not be simply wanting to make a quick buck, argued anonymous conceptual artist Shl0ms.
“The Lambo is a pretty powerful representation of people who are just into crypto because it’s a way to make money off of other people as quickly as possible.”
Earlier this month, Shl0ms blew up a Lamborghini, a supercar model and flagship of many Bitcoiners, to create an innovative project NFT and to protest against the get-rich-quick stereotype with which many enter the blockchain world. As he explained in an interview with The Block, the abstract shapes created by the Lambo fragments will be used to create a crypto collection, in NFT format, which will serve to promote the true meaning of cryptocurrencies and blockchain.

Shl0ms, who chose to remain anonymous during the interview, said these new technologies are incredibly promising. “There are so many good things we could do with it, but so many terrible things are being done”, were his words, indicating that many people simply decide to invest in cryptoassets with the idea of making money quickly. “These are truly extractive, zero-sum practices”He said.

Breaking down a lamborghini
Shl0ms first talked about “breaking into” a real Lamborghini back in September of last year, when he mentioned on his Twitter account the possibility of destroying a Lamborghini vehicle, asking his followers how best to do so. When asked, a large portion of his followers voted in favor of blowing up the vehicle to create some chaos, rather than methodically dismantling it.
At the time, Shl0ms explained that a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) would be created to physically fractionalize the lambo and tokenize its fragments as NFTs. He also expressed his dislike of lamborghinis stating that this would be his spirit of alignment for the DAO members.
The anonymous artist recalled that the culture of destroying an object as a “reason for creation” is something quite common in the world of traditional art, although it has not yet become popular in crypto art.
A collection of 999 NFTs
The destruction of the Lamborghini was carried out with the assistance of an explosives specialist. In this way, it was guaranteed that there would be “usable” parts of the vehicle left to be tokenized on the blockchain as NFTs. In total, the collection of non-fungible tokens, which will be launched on February 25, will show 999 parts of the Lambo.
The entire process of destroying the vehicle was meticulously documented in various rotating videos to capture all the angles. Shl0ms was also careful about the environmental impact his upcoming NFT project could cause, so the destruction of the lambo was attended by environmental consultants.
"This project is intended to serve as a reminder of the revolutionary potential of the underlying technology, if we handle it correctly rather than solely for personal gain."
So far, it is not known what the outcome of Shl0ms' new NFT collection will be - whether the Lamborghini was destroyed unnecessarily or whether its transition to the blockchain world will show its true value. The artist stated that he invested a total of $1 million in the destruction of the Lambo. The value of the vehicle was estimated at $250.000.
