STEPN, the Solana-based Web3 app, integrates payments with Apple Pay

Apple is taking a more open stance towards Web3, helping to break down the barriers to entry for non-crypto users.

On Twitter, STEPN developers, The Web3 lifestyle app based on the “move to earn” mechanism, highlighted its integration with Apple’s payment service, Apple Pay, so that users who do not use or are not familiar with cryptocurrencies can purchase their NFT sneakers without needing to own digital assets.

“They can simply use Apple Pay to make purchases in a fast, private and secure way,” STEPN developers said.

The integration of Apple Pay into STEPN came as a surprise to some. While the tech giant allowed Axie Infinity to be deployed on its App Store last week, the company has maintained a fairly restrictive policy towards NFT tokens.

Apple Pay and STEPN, bridging Web2 and Web3

The main goal pursued by STEPN developers with the integration of Apple Pay is to make it easier than ever to access and use their application. With this, STEPN also seeks to break down the barriers to entry into the blockchain world and Driving Web3 adoption worldwide

In addition to implementing Apple Pay payments to facilitate the acquisition of NFT sneakers, STEPN also announced new improvements and updates for its user community on iOS, such as the implementation of the Badges & Achievement system with which it seeks to improve the user experience.

New opportunities for Web3

The recent news linking Apple services with blockchain applications that implement NFTs has been taken by part of the crypto community as a change of direction by the technology giant, which seems to be giving a new opportunity to innovation and Web3.

In Q2022 XNUMX, Apple announced that app developers could trade NFTs from within apps available on its App Store as long as they used its trading system. Apple clarified that developers were prohibited from using NFT tokens from within their apps to offer users access to other features, products, or services or to reference external purchases.

Thus, although the marketing of non-fungible tokens was authorized in the Apple App Store under Apple's conditions, which also include keeping a commission of up to 30%, the news reinforced the legitimacy and acceptance that NFTs have gained in recent years.

Web3 game developer Gabriel Leydon supported the idea, saying on Twitter that Apple could boost the adoption of NFTs by making them more accessible to the masses. According to Leydon, Apple might Bringing the next billion users into the world of blockchain and Web1.000

Now after integrate the play to earn (P2E) game Axie Infinity on its App Store last week, possibly marking the first time the company has allowed an externally purchased NFT to be used in its App Store, Apple is opening the door to purchasing NFTs on STEPN through its payment service.
