10 years since the creation of the “HODL” meme

“HODL,” an intentional misspelling that was first published in 2013, has become a major slogan for Bitcoiners and the crypto community. This and more news in this handy daily summary so that you are always informed with the most recent events that occur within the crypto world.

Celebrating 10 years of the HODL meme

📍‌GameKyuubi was the first person to write the word HODL on the BitcoinTalk forum, in December 2013. Today, 10 years later, this misspelled word, which refers to “hold,” has become the main slogan of Bitcoiners and cryptocurrency holders who hold on to their assets, regardless of market conditions.

In 2013, on the BitcoinTalk forum, user GameKyuubi wrote a message saying “I AM HODLING,” to express that he was holding or maintaining his bitcoins. Although the word HODLING was misspelled in this message, the crypto community has adopted it as a slogan that they fully identify with.

GameKyuubi wrote a message acknowledging that there was a spelling mistake in HODLING, but the emphatic monologue that followed his message was sympathetic to many, who have eternalized it as a word of their own in the crypto industry.

BlockStream CEO Adam Back said on his X account that there was even a rap song dedicated to “HODL,” which was written in 2017.
